Carroll Smith passed away peacefully on the morning of July 5, 2022 after a brief illness. He was born on December 15, 1929 in Snyder, Oklahoma, and soon after the family moved to Fort Worth, Texas. He was the oldest of three children.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Dr. Marlene A. Smith, son Richard Smith, sister Lavonne Smith and brother Harroll Smith, Esq. He also had one cherished daughter, Diane Smith, who preceded him in death in 2004.
He was a veteran of the Korean War. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1948 to 1952.
After graduating from Texas Wesleyan College in Ft Worth, Texas in 1956, he began a distinguished business career. Initially he was Controller of Houston Fire & Casualty Insurance Company in Fort Worth, Texas. He served in the National Credit Union Administration as a Federal Bank/Credit Union Examiner and was later appointed Assistant Administrator of that agency in Washington, D.C. For ten years he served as President & CEO of Cunadata Corporation in Madison, Wisconsin. For a number of years he and Marlene also owned and operated the National Management & Consulting Company.
He often commented that his most difficult, challenging yet rewarding job was obtaining, managing and delivering papers for the morning and evening Fort Worth Star Telegram, a Job which he landed at age 13 and kept for 3 years.
He volunteered service in various organizations including the Colorado Springs Senior Center and the Veterans Hospital in Washington, D.C. He also served as Master of the Warren G. Harding Masonic Lodge in Washington, D.C.
He and Marlene enjoyed their extensive travels throughout the United States and Europe. He was an accomplished woodworker and created many beautiful pieces for family and friends.
At his request, services and interment will be private.
Memorial gifts may be made in his name to Pikes Peak Hospice whose wonderful staff cared for him with loving kindness during his final days.
