(March 4, 1959 – August 25, 2018)
We are sad to report the untimely passing of Carla Lynn Cook, of Peyton, CO on August 25, 2018 at the age of 59 after a valiant battle with pancreatic cancer. A Colorado Native, Carla was born in Pueblo.
Carla was preceded in death by her daughter Melissa Ann Hand-Hight (US Army Corporal), brother Charles David Cook, mother Lois Mae Cook, father Robert (Bob) Edwin Cook, and terrier Sugar, who were all there on August 25 to meet Carla and guide her on her way.
Carla leaves behind sister Robyn (David) Papadimitrio, children William Lamphier and Elizabeth Leabch, grandchildren Justice, Garrett, Lucas, Josephine, and Jackson. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, and yellow lab Sunny, who will all dearly miss her until we’re together again.
Carla had a great zest for life, and her driving love and passion was family. She was happiest at Thanksgiving, starting early every morning in the kitchen, cooking as much of the dinner herself as possible. Her home was full of warmth and love, with as many guests as possible gathered together at the mix of tables that were joined together in order to seat the capacity crowd of family and friends.
Carla loved horses, and all animals. Her dream was to own a ranch, living with her horses and dogs, surrounded by family.
Those who knew Carla would certainly say, “She was comfortable in herself!” With a love of Country Music, she’d crank up the radio and sing along at the top of her lungs! Given the opportunity, she’d pull on her cowboy boots and tear up the dance floor, strutting her stuff. We’re certainly going to miss that spirit that filled her life!
With a career spanning nearly four decades, and having a great compassion for helping people, Carla worked overseeing customer facing positions in the insurance industry, brokerage industry, and most recently at USAA Financial Services, taking a great deal of pride in honoring daughter Melissa’s service of three tours of duty in the Middle East. Carla worked with a team that assisted current and veteran service members to attain funding to meet their needs and plan for their dreams.
Family and friends are asked to gather for a celebration of Carla’s life at 11:00 AM, on Saturday, October 20th, at Mountain View Mortuary, 2350 Montebello Square Drive, Colorado Springs, Colorado.
