Father Bill Carmody died peacefully in his sleep on February 23rd, 2016 after a long battle with cancer. He was 58. Father Bill was the director of Respect Life of Diocese of Colorado Springs and Pastor of St. Dominic’s Parish in Colorado Springs.
He was born September 26, 1957 to Lawrence and Delia Carmody of Denver, Colorado. He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Josephine and niece Shannon. He is survived by bother Frank (Sue), nieces Kelly and Kerry, brother Pat (Jenny) nieces Georgia, Olivia and Mya, brother Ed, niece Ariana, and sisters Mary Kay, and Theresa.
He graduated from Indiana State University in 1981 with a Master’s degree in athletic training. He worked for 3 years in Mission, Texas as a high school athletic trainer. In 1984, he entered Holy Trinity Seminary at the University of Dallas for 2 years. He completed his seminary studies at St. Thomas Seminary in Denver and was ordained a priest on June 2nd, 1990. Shortly after his ordination he was named the first director of the Respect Life Office in Colorado Springs. In 1994 at Corpus Christi Parish he introduced the Project Rachel Program which helps men and women suffering from the traumatic effects of abortion. In May 1994 Father Bill began celebrating weekly mass in front of Planned Parenthood which he continued to do faithfully until November 2015. In June of 2015 he celebrated his 25 year jubilee as being a priest.
A visitation will take place March 4, 2016 from 3:00-9:00 pm, a Vigil Service with Rosary will be held at 7:00 pm. On March 5, 2016 there will be a visitation from 8:30 – 10:00 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery, Colorado Springs. All services will be held at St. Dominic Catholic Church, 5354 S. US Highway 85/87 Colorado Springs, Colorado.
