Barbara J. Bowerman was born on October 12, 1932 in Ft. Collins, Colorado. She was preceded in death by her parents Zenas and Lois Brush and her sister Mary Lou Rawlings (Bill). Her family moved to Raton, New Mexico during the Dust Bowl and she experienced the massive, choking dust storms firsthand. They moved next to Wichita, Kansas during World War II, and, as a child, she delighted in watching the freshly built war planes fly over her house on their way to the war front.
After the war, her family moved to Colorado Springs. She attended Palmer High School and played the flute in the high school orchestra. Upon graduation, she trained as a radiology technician and after marrying Dr. David L. Bowerman, moved to Denver where she became a homemaker and mother to her three children, Kurt, Lisa and Sue.
Barbara and her family moved back to Colorado Springs in 1966 and she remained there the rest of her life. During this time, she enjoyed skiing, tennis, pottery, weaving and especially reading. She had two extraordinary appetites which she often indulged in at the same time: reading all sorts of books and magazines and snacking on her favorite chocolate, Hershey’s Toffee Nuggets. She was also a dedicated Denver Bronco fan.
After her divorce in 1970, Barbara returned to work first as a medical transcriptionist, then back to the work she enjoyed best - radiology technician. She retired in 1992 and took up bowling, playing in a league where she met folks who would become very dear friends for the rest of her life. She also became an accomplished water color artist displaying her paintings in numerous local galleries.
Barbara possessed such a vivacious, fun-loving personality, that she was known as “Bubbles” to her friends and family. She was also very generous and helpful to others giving assistance to her children and grandchildren whenever she was asked.
Barbara is survived by her three children, five grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Her Celebration of Life will be held in the spring.
