Aug. 27, 1933 – July 5, 2011
Alvin Holling, 77, was born near Hardwick, Minnesota on August 27, 1933 to Ferdinand and Wiebke (Hollmer) Holling. He served in the Armed Forces from 1954 to 1956. In 1957 he married the love of his life, Viola Branson. They farmed near Hardwick, Minnesota until 1961 when they moved to a farm near Colton, South Dakota. In 1968 they moved to Sioux Falls, South Dakota where he worked at Edgar Steel Company. In 1972 the family moved to Colorado Springs where he worked at Denver Sala Company for 25 years, retiring in 1997. Alvin was a member of the International Polka Club and Southern Colorado Family Polka Club, of which Viola is still a member.
Alvin is survived by his wife, Viola; two sons, Eugene (Angie), Dale (Cheryl); two daughters, Janice (Brian) Whitehead, Gayle (Jay) Reed; four grandsons, four granddaughters, four great-grandchildren, brother Bill Holling (Lois); sister Alice Liuhmann and sister-in-law Geneva Kluck.
Alvin was preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Betty Holling.
Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Monday, July 11, 2011. The service will be at 11:00 a.m. with the burial to follow, all we be held at Memorial Gardens Cemetery and Funeral Home. Lunch will follow at the International Polka Club, 2224 Bush Ave., Colorado Springs.
