“Tommy was born on July 17, 1941 in Big Spring, Texas to the late Gordon Meeks and Christine Brown Meeks.
Tommy was a man who believed in hard work and dedication to family. He started his working career driving and delivering for Pepsi in 1960. He quickly discovered that he had a gift for sales and a love of meeting and getting to know people.
Eventually, his career path lead him to selling Maryland Club coffee, a division of Coca Cola. In 1970, he and his family were transferred to Cleveland, Ohio where he worked in sales for Coca Cola directly. In 1972, he was transferred to Atlanta, Georgia, the headquarters of Coca Cola. He and his family remained there for four years. He resigned his position there after the death of his father in law and moved his family back to Big Spring to be closer to family. He then took a sales position with White Swan, an industrial food distribution company. He had a large sales territory that covered the majority of West Texas. He quickly rose through the ranks to become one of their most consistent top tier salesmen. He loved people, he was born with the gift of gab and he loved his job. In 1986, he left White Swan and became a managing partner for Sonic Drive In. He managed his own store and became a partner in seven others. He retired at 65 but was an active partner in eight locations until his passing.
Tommy was a very out going and gregarious character with a great sense of humor. No one was immune from his practical jokes. In his younger years, he coached his daughter’s softball team and taught his son how to work on cars. He always demanded the best effort out of his children. He was overprotective to a fault but it always came from a place of love. In his spare time, he enjoyed bowling, collecting and working on classic cars, watching his beloved Dallas Cowboys, and watching the NHRA drag races, especially when John Force was driving. Tommy was a Mason and a proud member of the C.C. Riders, his classic car club. He will be truly missed by all that knew and loved him.
Tommy is survived by his wife, Diana Meeks of Colorado City, his daughter, Valeri Meeks of New York City, his son, Tommy Meeks, Jr. of Colorado City, his step-son, Allen Brodie and wife Jennifer of Lubbock, his grandchildren, Lauran and husband Hunter of Snyder, Samantha and husband Tanner of Virginia Beach, VA, Brooklyn and Emerson, his great grandchildren, Tallen, Waylon, Kylen and Brayklie, his brother, Mark McCraney and wife Becky of Midland, his sister, Marsha Allen and husband Bruce of Coahoma, their beloved dogs, Indiana and Piper and many nieces, nephews and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his best friend in life, Robert “Buddy” Meeks, by his loving sister, Beverley Naylor and two more beloved dogs, Wilma and Sissy.
