Mr. Robert “Bob” Harry Ratliff Jr., age 91, lifelong resident of Colorado City, passed away on October 12, 2016 at Mitchell County Hospital. A funeral service will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, October 15th at the First United Methodist Church with Reverend Larry Bass officiating. Burial will follow in the Colorado City Cemetery under the care and direction of Kiker-Seale Funeral Home.
Bob was born on April 21, 1925 to Robert Harry Sr. and Isabel Smith Ratliff in Colorado City, TX. He was a Sargent in the United States Air Force from 1943 to 1946. He spent two years and one month in Europe during World War II. Robert earned four Bronze Stars for Battle of Normandy; Northern France; Rhineland; and Central Europe. He attended McMurry University, graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Business in 1950. Bob married Peggy Bodine on December 24, 1951. They shared many blessed years together along with their two children Mike and Kathy. Peggy preceded Bob in death on December 31, 1997. Bob established Ratliff Insurance Agency in 1954; a family business operated along with his son Mike. Bob was always involved and participating in community relations. He was a member of the Methodist Church where many will remember him serving as a greeter for more than 30 years, Lions Club, Chamber of Commerce, various church committees, Heart of West Texas Museum Board for fifty years, and he was a 32nd degree Mason for over sixty-five years and a Shriner. One of his favorite pastimes was golfing; he was an avid player. Bob married Geneva Findley on June 26, 1999. They shared many happy years together. Bob will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him. He will be remembered for his kind, giving nature and the great friend and helping hand that he was to many in the community.
Those left to cherish Bob’s memories, are his loving wife of 17 years, Geneva Findley Ratliff of Colorado City; his son, Mike Ratliff and wife Janna of Colorado City; his daughter, Kathy Zellers and husband Tom of Houston; step-son, Wayne Findley and wife Stephanie of Whitney, TX; two grandsons, Chase Ratliff and wife Kylie, and Cole Ratliff; one granddaughter, Stacy Diane Greene and husband Patrick; as well as three great-grandchildren; Audrey and Abby Ratliff, and Henry William Greene.
Bob is preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Isabel Ratliff; his first wife, Peggy Ratliff; brother, Hubert “Hub” Ratliff; and his step-son, Macca Findley.
The family welcomes friends from 6 to 8 PM on Friday, October 14th at Kiker-Seale Funeral Home.
