He was born in Roscoe, Texas on April 14, 1941 to Filiberto and Bonifacia Salcido Alvarez.
Rene was a simple man who made sure to put his God and his family above all else, making sure to teach his children life’s important lessons. He was a graduate of Loraine ISD and has lived in the Mitchell County area most of his life. Most people remember him from his days working as a manager of Fuller’s in Colorado City, helping his neighbors one smile at a time. On November 24, 1965 he married the love of his life Elida DeLeon, spending over 52 years of marital bliss watching their children grow always making sure to be there if they were needed.
Rene is survived by his wife Elida Alvarez, by his sons Tony Alvarez and wife Debra of Arlington and Tommy Alvarez and wife Nancy of Grand Prarie, and by his daughters Diana Bell and husband Toby of Colorado City and by Elizabeth Garza and husband Rudolph also of Colorado City. He is also survived by his grandchildren Eric Pineda, Lydia Flores, Anissa Rivera, Danielle Bell, Toby Bell Jr., Victoria Alvarez, Demi Alvarez, Nicholas Alvarez, and Julian Alvarez, and by his siblings Ruben Alvarez and wife Elsa of Snyder and Rumelia Castro and husband Frank of Amarillo. Several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins also survived.
He was preceded in death by his parents and by his brothers Eddie Alvarez Sr. and Anastacio Alvarez
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Saint Ann’s Catholic Church on Friday, January 26th at 10 am with Father Michael Udegbunam officiating, burial will follow in the Mitchell County Cemetery.
The family will be present for a visitation on Thursday, January 25th from 6-8pm with a rosary to be held at 7 pm at Kiker Seale Funeral Home.
