He was born on September 27, 1961 in Wichita Kansas to Ray Edward Vanderslice and Donna Jean Rieke Vanderslice.
Ray Ray grew up the hard way learning and staying humble every day. He learned to be a great father and grandfather. He had a big heart and was always willing to do anything for anybody. He enjoyed seeing the good in others and could easily make friends with others. He found his biggest joy in family and could be described as the glue that held them all together. In his spare time he enjoyed cooking for others, riding his motorcycle, fishing, camping, and being the artist he loved to be. He could make almost anything out of wood and was a phenomenal drawer. His warm smile and gentle loving attitude will be cherished by all who loved him.
Ray Ray is survived by his wife Nancy Castillo, by sons Chris Martinez of Colorado City,Jason Vanderslice and wife Esmeralda of Colorado City,and Nicholas Munoz of Colorado City, by daughters Christy Vanderslice of Colorado City, Courtney Rhea Martinez and fiancé Anthony Matos of Colorado City and Natalie Munoz of Colorado City, and by grandchildren Alex Trujillo, Izaya Vanderslice, Evan Vanderslice, Angel Barrera, Brianna Martinez, and Christopher Martinez. Also surviving are his brothers Steve Vanderslice and wife Joanna of Omaha Nebraska, Don Vanderslice of Texas and Chris Vanderslice of Colorado City, and sisters Teresa Williamson and husband Dennis of Colorado City,Faith Stansell of Dunn, and Marlene Tucker of Colorado City, his mother-in-law Olga Castillo of Colorado City, sister-in-laws Leticia Usener and husband Jeremy of Colorado City, Diana Oliver and husband Greg of Sweetwater, Sandra Castillo of Colorado City, Christine Pevehouse and husband Dennis of Lubbock, and by his best friend David Rios and wife Amy of Colorado City, as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, by a nephew Brian Williamson, by a daughter Jessica Marie Castillo, and by his father-in-law Henry Castillo
A funeral service for Ray Ray will be held at Oak Street Baptist Church on Saturday, April 2nd at 10 am with Pastor Jackie Brem officiating, burial will follow in the Colorado City Cemetery. Pall Bearers will be D.J. Rivera, Zach McPhaul, Anthony Matos, Chase Castillo, Alex Trujillo, Chris Martinez, Braden Williamson, and Shadda Cansler. Honorary bearers include Izaya Vanderslice,Evan Vanderslice, Nicholas Munoz, Thunder Cansler, Jayden Usener, Sergeant Cansler, Christopher Martinez, and David Rios.
The family will be present for a visitation on Friday April 1st from 5-7 pm at Kiker Seale Funeral Home.
