She was born in Colorado City on September 10, 1935 to Julian and Mary Wilson Hammond.
Mary Ellen was a very quiet, kind, soft spoken woman who lived life the way God intended, faithfully attending the First Baptist Church of Colorado City, and raising her family. Mary Ellen was a good mother, always making sure to find time to teach her children the things that she enjoyed in life, including teaching them to play the piano. Many around town knew her as the Mary Kay lady, when she wasn’t selling Mary Kay or spending time with her family or church family she enjoyed reading, cooking, and playing the piano.
Mary Ellen is survived by her daughters Sherri Fuller of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Terri Sue Hobbs of Midland, Dr. Lori Hammond, of Midland, her step-daughter Selena Simpson, and step-son Craig Kennedy, both of Oklahoma; grandchildren Marcus Orona, Roxane Bock, and Robert Fuller, and by her great grandchildren Colton Bock, Brandon Bock, Lilian Bock, Peyton Orona, Gunnar Orona, Hendrix Orona, Dexter Orona, and Emma Fuller, as well as by many loving nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Carrol Kennedy who she married in 1987, by her parents, and by her siblings Romaine Hammond, Ed Warren Hammond, Madrene Glenn, Doris Hill, and Marjorie Dykstra.
A funeral service for Mary Ellen will be held on Friday, January 24th at 10 am in the First Baptist Church of Colorado City with Doctor Jerry Shields officiating, burial will follow in the Colorado City Cemetery.
The family will be present for a visitation on Thursday, January 23rd from 5-7 pm at the Kiker Seale Funeral Home of Colorado City.
