She was born in Phoenix, Arizona on January 17, 1946 to Roberto Peña and Celia Fonseca. She was raised and loved by Abuelito Martín and Aureá Terrones in Colorado City.
Margie was a devoted Catholic Christian, a loving wife, mother, and friend to all who knew her.
Margie was the beloved wife of Frank Silva Mendoza for 56 beautiful years. Together, they built a strong and loving family, raising five children who were her greatest joy. Margie is survived by her daughters, Sally Arendell (spouse: Russ Arendell), Becky Sanchez (spouse: Tom Sanchez), and Christina Keane (spouse: Harry Keane, Jr.), and her sons, Tony Mendoza and Ricky Luciano Mendoza (spouse: Melissa Mendoza). Her legacy of love and kindness lives on through her cherished grandchildren: Sharley Speed, Luciano Deven Mendoza, Deserae DeLoera, Damian DeLoera, Julia Arendell, Sarah Arendell, Jesse Arendell, Tommy Sanchez, Jordan Black, Syndey Welch, Justin McKibben, and Sabrina Blanchett. Along with great-grandchildren: Lawson Speed, Hadley Mills Speed, Kade Luciano Mendoza, Sofia Mendoza, Makenzie Black, Elizabeth Jade Black, Everly Black, Harper Black, whose lives she touched deeply. Nana’s light has lit the way to future great-grandbaby, Noah Rosales coming in December.
She was reunited in death with her angel baby, Sylvia Mendoza.
A homemaker by trade, she also worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Margie dedicated her life to caring for others with compassion and grace. She also worked in the school cafeteria and Wallace Center, where her warm smile and nurturing spirit left an everlasting impression on countless students, Senior Citizens and staff members.
Margie’s faith was the cornerstone of her life, guiding her in every decision and action. She was an active member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church as a Guadalupana, Cursillista, Baptism coordinator, Eucharistic Minister, and godmother to many. During the time she lived in Monahans she was an active member of St. John Catholic Church; where she also served as a Eucharistic Minister. She also served at the St. Vincent De Paul Thrift Store. Her unwavering faith and love for her family were the foundations of her strength and resilience.
Her gentle demeanor, kind heart, and selfless love will be profoundly missed by those fortunate enough to know her. Margie’s life was a testament to the power of faith, love, and family, and her memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved her.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Margie will be held at Saint Ann’s Catholic Church in Colorado City on Friday, July 5 at 10am with Father Michael Udegbunam officiating. Burial will follow in the Mitchell County Cemetery with Damian DeLoera, Harry Keane, Jr., Russ Arendell, Jesse Arendell, Tom Sanchez, Adam Castro serving as pallbearers.
The family will be present for a visitation on Thursday, July 4 from 5-7pm in the Kiker-Seale Funeral Home Chapel with a rosary to follow at 7pm.
