Kenny Hammond, 65, lifelong resident of Colorado City passed away Thursday, Sept. 2, 2021 at Shannon Critical Care Hospital in San Angelo after a short illness. Graveside services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2021 at Colorado City Cemetery under the direction of Kiker-Seale Funeral Home. The Rev. Bruce Parsons of Champion Baptist Church will deliver the eulogy. A visitation for Kenny will be held on Monday, September 6, 2021 from 5-7 pm.
Kenny was born in Colorado City at Root Memorial Hospital July 10, 1956. His mother, JoAnn Seward Zeck preceded him in death on Feb. 23, 2017. His father, Billy Hammond of Big Spring survives him. Kenny attended Colorado City schools and graduated with the CHS class of 1974. He met and married Katherine Clark in Colorado City. They have been married 45 years.
Kenny worked in the oilfield for 9 years for Cam Drilling Co. of Abilene, for Tom’s Paint & Body Shop in Colorado City for 17 years, and switched careers to construction after he built his own home at Lake Champion. He enjoyed bass fishing in his tube at the lake and could tell a good “fish story”. He also loved to hunt for arrowheads, a passion he has passed on to his children and grandchildren. At heart, though, Kenny was a family man. He took great pride in the achievements of his four children and ten grandchildren and enjoyed their company immensely. He loved being “PawPaw”. Kenny was also a good friend and never met a stranger.
Kenny was a Christian and a member of Champion Baptist Church. He participated in Christmas in April for several years, heading up a team for two years. He was also a volunteer fireman for the Mitchell County Volunteer Fire Dept. for several years and was selected Fireman of the Year in 1992. He knew every back road and the best fishing holes and Indian camps in Mitchell County. He loved his hometown.
Survivors include his wife, Katherine of Colorado City; his father, Billy (Jane) Hammond of Big Spring; four children: Amie (Ty) Wood and Carla (Andrew) Sauer of Colorado City, Eric Hammond of Evanston, WY, and Daniel (Kyra) Hammond of San Angelo; ten grandchildren: Berkley Wood of College Station; Eli Sauer of San Angelo; Callie, Andrew, Payton, and Mikah Jo Hammond of Syracuse, UT and Everly Hammond of Evanston, WY; Isabella and Carolina Wood and Kennadi Sauer of Colorado City. He is also survived by his sisters, Christy Wagenfuhr of Bulverde, TX and Tracie Silmser of Tampa, FL and a stepbrother, Kaleb Hill of Marble Falls.
Honorary pallbearers are Eric and Daniel Hammond, Andrew Sauer, Ty Wood, Eli Sauer, Ronny Lindsey, Tom Willingham, Doug Bisnette, Marvin Walker, Keith Parker, and Bob Martin.
