Joy Murriel Whitaker

Joy Whitaker, age 86, passed away at home surrounded by her family on October 4, 2013. Graveside funeral service will be held at 2 PM on Monday, October 7, 2013 at Colorado City Cemetery. Pastor Rick Wilson will officiate. Services are under the care and direction of Kiker-Seale Funeral Home.

Joy was born August 12, 1927 in Taylor, Texas to Walter M. Mitchell and Ava Ivy Mitchell who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her husband, William Alvin Whitaker on August 26, 1995, two sisters, and three brothers. She was a member of College Baptist Church in Big Spring.

Remaining to cherish Joy’s memory are her two daughters, Sheila Payne and husband Thomas of Big Spring and Pauletta Davis and husband John of Cedar Lake, Michigan. Also surviving Joy are six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and another great-grandchild on the way; as well as her sister, Estelle Williams of California, and two brothers, Troy Mitchell of Andrews, Texas and Walter Mitchell and wife Mildred of Colorado City.
