He was born in Wills Point, Texas on September 27, 1934 to the late Casey Claude and Daisey Mae Hendon Shackelford.
Johnny was a man who loved to do public relations; he served as the County Commissioner for 16 years. He was the type of man who never met a stranger and would shake almost anybody’s hand and when he left would give you a hug and an I love you, even if he just met you. Anywhere he went he could be seen talking to people or waving at strangers as he passed by. Family was the biggest part of his life, and once he had grandchildren he would do anything for them. Johnny was a member of Mitchell County Masonic Lodge #536, Scotish Rites, Shriner Temple of San Angelo, and of the 1st Baptist Church of Westbrook.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years Pat Shackelford, his sons; Steve Shackelford of San Angelo, Mark Crain and wife Becky of Sweetwater, and Mike Crain and wife Benita of Sweetwater and by a daughter Jana Shackelford of San Angelo, his grandchildren Tanner Crain, Ty Crain, Steve Crain and Casey Crain, as well as 3 great-grandchildren. Also surviving is a brother Casey Shackelford and wife June of East Texas, his sisters Rose Tucker of Corpus Cristi and Alieen Matlock, a sister-in-law Carla Brooks of Lomax and several nieces
He was preceded in death by his sisters Mary Kling and Loice Ann Shackelford.
A funeral service for Johnny will be held on Tuesday, March 7th at 10 am at the Westbrook First Baptist Church with Pastor Paul Smith officiating. A graveside service will follow at the Colorado City Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Monday night March 6th from 6-7 pm at the Kiker-Seale Funeral Home.
