Joe H. Morren, age 84, went from his earthly home in Colorado City to his heavenly home on Thursday, October 5, 2017. There will be a family visitation on Sunday, October 8, from 6:00-8:00pm at Kiker-Seale Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services will be at 2:00pm Monday, October 9, at First Baptist Church, Colorado City.
Joe was born September 16, 1933, in Mitchell County, to Edward and Lela (Brown) Morren. He graduated from Westbrook High School at age 16 and enrolled in Draughon’s Business College in Abilene. He then served in the United States Air Force, and upon his honorable discharge, returned home and was employed by Caddell Transit at the old Col-Tex refinery. At the same time, he started pursuing his accounting hours to qualify for the CPA exam. He finished with courses from Texas Tech and University of Texas and passed the exam, working days and studying nights. Upon receiving his certificate on February 7, 1967, he applied himself diligently in service to his clients for 50 years, with the help of his wife and loyal employees. He was a member of the Texas Society of CPA’s and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
He served on the Board of Directors of the City National Bank for many years. He was also a founding member of the Mutual Investment Club. Joe loved his sports and was an enthusiastic fan of the Colorado City Wolves and the Texas Longhorns. Having been raised on the farm, he had a life-long interest in farming. One of his favorite pastimes was a Sunday afternoon drive with his wife to the farms.
He married Mary Beth Lewis on December 7, 1957, in Westbrook, Texas. They resided in Colorado City for 59 years.
He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Bill Morren; step-mother, Christene Morren; step-brothers, Joe, Billy, and James Shoemaker; brothers-in-law, Ray Eiden and Thomas Lewis; and sisters-in-law, Kay Shoemaker, Jean Lewis, and Leona Lewis.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Beth Morren; son, Hal Morren of Colorado City; daughters, Lesa Morren and Kari Morren of Houston, TX; sister, Patricia Ann Walker and husband, Ernest, of Mart, TX; step-sister and brother-in-law, Mary Nell and Wayne Claxton, step sisters-in-law Joyce Shoemaker and Peggy Shoemaker; and sister-in-law, Mattie Eiden, all of Colorado City; brother-in-law, Robert Lewis and wife, Yvonne, of Huntsville, TX, as well as several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
