Jimmie Leon Upshaw age 76 of Colorado City, TX passed away Saturday, November 12, 2022 at Mitchell County Nursing & Rehabilitation Center after a short battle with bone marrow cancer. Jimmie was born February 1, 1946 in Rotan, Tx to W. R. “Pete” Upshaw and Opal Juanita Jones Upshaw.
Jimmie worked as a custodian for 30 years with Colorado ISD before “Graduating” into retirement in 2000. He, in his own words “helped a lot of kids get through school”. Growing up he moved regularly to different towns with his parents, brother and donkey named Blackey before finally landing in Roby, Tx. In late January of 1967 Jimmie met and then three months later on April 15th married Mary Minnie Whitley in Rotan, Tx.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mary Whitley Upshaw of Colorado City. He is also survived by his son, Billy Upshaw and wife Trina of Snyder and his daughters, Connie Bell and husband Donnie of Colorado City and Lee Ann Limones and husband Bubba of Colorado City. Jimmie is also survived by a number of grandchildren including Cody Upshaw and wife Harley of Colorado City, Harley Bell and wife Samantha of Rogers, Sydney Upshaw of Coahoma, Damon Bell of Rogers as well as Bradon Upshaw, Lathan Limones and Haelyn Limones of Colorado City. Also two great grandchildren Paislee and Rylann Upshaw. He was preceded in death by his parents W. R and Opal, an infant brother, and grandson Douglas Major Bell. A funeral will be held on Friday, November 18th at 10 am at the First Baptist Church in Colorado City with Doctor Jerry Shields officiating, burial will follow in the Zion Rest Cemetery, pallbearers are Dale Craghead, Curtis Craghead, Shawn Fluffy Rees, John Forbes, Jesse Stark and Nathan Hoyle. Honorary pallbearers are Cody Upshaw, Harley Bell, Damon Bell, Bradon Upshaw, Lathan Limones, and Steeley Upshaw.
The family will be present for a visitation at the Kiker Seale Funeral Home on Thursday, November 17th from 6-8 pm
