Darlene was born in Earlsboro, Oklahoma to parents Verna Mae Thomas Matthews and Benjamin Warren Matthews. She was married to Oscar Pierce “Red” Givens of Loraine, Texas who passed away November 27, 2002. She is survived by her three children: Kay (Malcolm Dugas), Karen (Larry Holder, deceased) and Mike Givens (Donna), and loving grandchildren, great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. Darlene also loved and cherished a long-time friendship with Priscilla Givens Thompson of Loraine and Highland, Texas, Mildred and Joe Talley of Midland, Texas (both deceased), and Bonnie Talley Husband, living in Midland, Texas. Many thanks to the staff of the Mitchell County Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Colorado City, Texas.
Darlene was full of wisdom, grace, love, and passion. She loved looking at every full moon. She was a self-taught artist focusing primarily on western art. Also, in her art studio, she strung many a beaded jeweled necklaces and earrings. She loved old western movies, Willie Nelson and red geraniums- which she always planted in the wooden planter that “Red” made for her years ago with wood from the house she grew up in.
A graveside service by Kiker Seale Funeral home will be held in the Loraine Cemetery on Tuesday, April 4th at 11am with Pastor Larry Chaney officiating.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her memory to the Loraine Cemetery, c/o Loraine City Hall
