Mila Cartagena Isoto Cabig—Born February 8, 1928 in Consolacion, Cebu, Philippines. Raised by Generosa and Cipriano Tibon in San Francisco, CA. Beloved wife to Cesar Cabig. Cherished mother to Genny, Lisa and Cesar Jr. Treasured grandmother to Francesca (Inday) Garciagodos, Cristina (Nina) Montorio, Teresa (Sasi) Braganza, and Francisco (Chito) Cabig. Precious great-grandmother to Cisco, Diahlo, Ignacio IV, Angelo, Ilonzo, Aysia, Camryn, Emiliano, Brice and Chito Jr.
In Mila’s early years, she helped run the family restaurants, Luzon and Luzonita Café, located in San Francisco’s “Manila Town,” all while attending Oakland Tech High school, followed by USC. She met her husband, Cesar, while he was ported in San Francisco while serving in the US Coast Guard. Although Mila fought off Cesar’s advances and efforts of courtship, he ultimately won her heart, and never returned to his ship. Mila and Cesar solidified their love through marriage in 1952, shortly followed by welcoming three children, who they loved and raised in San Francisco. San Francisco was considered home through their retirement in the late 80’s. Mila, along with Cesar, spent their retirement years in her hometown, Consolacion, Cebu. Cesar held Mila’s hand and heart for over 67 years.
Mila was the foundation and anchor of her family. Her dedication to her family and close friends was paramount in her lifetime. She let no obstacle stand between her and assuring her husband and family were well taken care of and happy. Her philosophy to “never get old” was emitted through her forever-young spirit. This was apparent in her Facebook activity, in which browsing through photos of her family and friends, and diligently responding to messages became her daily “job.”
Mila will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, integrity, dedication and brute honesty. You got her honesty, always, whether you liked it or not. Mila was an admirable woman, positively impacting the lives of those closest to her.
Mila’s vivaciousness will be remembered by many. She lived life to the fullest, possessed a heart of gold, and loved her family unconditionally. Although the world has lost a great woman, and her departure leaves a huge void for her family, heaven is lucky to have gained a very special angel. Rest in love, mama Mila.
