Barbara May Chan

on August 22, 2023 at the age of 77. A Celebration of Life will be held in the Chapel of

Woodlawn Funeral Home on Thursday, August 31, 2023 at 10 a.m.

Born to Edward and May Chan in Oakland, California, Barbara is survived by her

siblings Edythe, Paula, Dick (Anna); nieces Pamela Gallagher and Marianne McDonald

(Coby), Denise and Joyce Hum; and Samantha (Kevin Truong) and Katelin;

grandnieces and grandnephews Rainie Gallagher Thompson, Ruby and Sarafina

Young, Henry, Alexander, Charlie and Lily McDonald; and many loving relatives and

friends.

Retired early after 29 years of federal service, Barbara enjoyed expanding her

opportunities to help family and give back to the community. She assisted busy families

with picking up their children from school and cooking every week for nieces and

grandnieces. In the community, she helped to provide live theater experiences for

thousands of children each summer and to act in monthly skits for seniors to reduce

stress.
