Rosemary C. Murray passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning, November 10, 2016 surrounded by her children and grandchildren. Ro was born in Philadelphia on August 1, 1924 to John and Agnes Collins. For quite some time she has been prepared to rejoin her husband of 36 years, Joseph F. Murray, Jr., her parents, and her God, since she always told everyone she was grateful for a long and wonderful life. Not a day went by that she did not mention her beloved Joe. Ro missed “last call” for what would have been Joe’s 100th birthday on November 9th, but there’s no doubt they are celebrating together now. Ro was a woman of tremendous faith, and her life was guided by her Catholic principles.
Ro was an avid sports fan and loved her Philly teams. She also played basketball for Immaculata College and was a member of the women’s basketball team that was city champions in the mid 1940’s. After college, Ro met the love of her life at a parish dance given by her pastor for the returning soldiers. Ro and Joe were married October 9, 1948, and together they raised their 5 children. As a stay at home Mom, she was always there for her children. Later in life, Ro cherished the role of grandmother and great grandmother. She was very involved with the Marian Chapter of Immaculata, and devoted much of her spare time to volunteer work including serving on the Ladies Auxiliary of Lourdes Hospital Foundation, being a Eucharistic Minister at Pius X (Holy Eucharist) Church, and a surgical waiting room volunteer at West Jersey Hospital. For many years, she organized and chaired the Christmas gifts, food and clothing drive for needy families of St. Joseph’s Parish in Camden.
Ro had a zest for life and a great sense of humor which always served her well during difficult times. She also loved the Jersey shore and summers spent with family and friends in Avalon. Ro is survived by her five children, Carol (Terry), Patti (Rick), John (Chris), Neal (Sue) and Larry (Carole), her sister Inez, and was blessed with 12 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
The viewing will be held Sunday, November 13th at BLAKE-DOYLE Funeral Home 226 W. Collings Ave. Collingswood, NJ 08108 7:00 to 9:00 PM. A Funeral Mass will be held Monday, November 14th at Holy Eucharist Catholic Church in Cherry Hill, NJ at revised 10:30 AM. Interment to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Berlin, NJ.
In lieu of flowers the family respectfully suggests donations in Rosemary C. Murray’s name to Immaculata University 1145 W. King Rd. Immaculata, PA 19345
