Annette was born on November 22, 1927, in Warren, Ohio to Josephine and Stanley Lenio. She was the youngest of ten children and was affectionately called Babe. Born into a humble family, Annette was doted on and spoiled a bit by her brothers and sisters. She enrolled in Ohio State University in 1946. There she met Harlow (Sandy) Ladd, a handsome young vet from Put-in-Bay, Ohio who had returned to Ohio State to finish his degree on the GI Bill. They were married on June 26, 1948.
Annette and Sandy welcomed seven children over the next 19 years: Deborah Celhar of Moorestown, NJ, Mark of Tampa, FL, Patricia Barnhardt of Charlottesville, VA, Karen Repece of Delran, NJ, Mary Elizabeth Gilligan of Point Pleasant, NJ, David of Augusta, ME and Kathleen Manuel of Cornelius, NC. The young family moved numerous times following Sandy’s jobs as an executive in sales and finance for RCA and Kranzley & Co. Eventually they settled in Cherry Hill, NJ for over 21 years. A devoted Catholic, Annette was a daily communicant for many years, probably imploring the Lord to help her with the awesome job of raising seven children!
Annette and Sandy had a loving marriage that spanned 47 years. Just as their youngest daughter was starting college Sandy was transferred one last time to Sarasota, FL. They made themselves comfortable quickly, making new friends and enjoying the climate. All was well for eight years when Sandy fell ill. With Annette by his side he battled cancer for two years before his death in 1995 at the age of 71. With courage and grace Annette faced her new life. Though she had never spent any time alone and on her own, she decided to continue her life in FL. With a few good friends to give her support, Annette carried on.
In 1998 one of her very best friends introduced Annette to her brother, a handsome older gentleman who had a love of life, a way with words, and a sense of humor that charmed everyone. A former horse trainer from County Meath, Ireland, Clement Magnier introduced Annette to a whole new world after their surprising decision to marry in 1999 and to divide their time between Ireland and Florida. Annette was welcomed into the Magnier family by Clem’s eight children and added Clem’s twelve grandchildren to her own. Annette and Clem were married for 16 years.
After Clem’s death in 2015 Annette moved to NJ and was cared for by her three daughters: Debbie, Karen and Beth. For nearly two years she was blessed with more opportunities to visit with all her family members including most of her 19 grand- children and 12 great grandchildren. She was a special woman who adapted to what life sent her way.
Her children mourn her passing on June 30, 2017 but celebrate her 89 years rich with family and friends. A funeral mass will be held at Christ Our Light Church at 402 Kings Hwy, Cherry Hill, NJ on August 5, 2017 at 11AM. There will be a brief visitation in the church starting at 10:00.
