Wallace Lee Durham, age 82, of Collierville, TN passed away Wednesday, June 19, 2019 peacefully in Murrells Inlet, SC. He was born in Oxford, MS and grew up in Como, MS spending days fishing at Sardis Lake and working in the cotton fields with his Dad and brothers. He was a sweet, kind, honest and gentle man. He was very witty and always enjoyed a good joke. He is preceded by his wife of 61 years, Peggy Ann Shearer, his high school sweetheart. He was a faithful member of the Baptist church (Parkway Village Baptist, Ridgeway Baptist and Collierville First Baptist) where he served as a deacon and a member of the choir. He had a heart for Jesus and would be the first to share the good news of Salvation to anyone he met.
Wallace joined the Air Force in 1956 and spent over 35 years serving in the Air Force & Tennessee Air National Guard 164th, and retired as a Master Sergeant. He was very proud of his service and never expected anything in return. He was well known for being able to "fix" anything. He loved everything about airplanes, except flying in them.
He liked to ski and fish. He spent much of his retired time fishing and going to car shows.
His passion was cars, of which he owned many throughout the years, but his favorite was his 1959 Silver Hawk Studebaker. His car won many trophies and awards. He was a 45 year member of the Studebaker Drivers Club.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Wallace Webster “Buddy” Durham and Virgil Lee Terry Durham and two brothers, William Raymond Durham Sr. and Harvey Gerald Durham. He is survived by his sister Annie DeLoach of Maumelle, AR
His surviving children are Andria Brooks (Terry) and Amy Mills (Kirk). Grandchildren: Leighton Brooks, Dalton Mills, Delaney Mills and Dunavant Mills.
