Thomas Walter Taylor, 85, passed away peacefully on May 2, 2023, at his daughter’s home surrounded by his family. Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. on Monday May 8th at Collierville Funeral Home, 3863 Bailey Station Road, Collierville, TN. Funeral services will follow visitation at 11 a.m. with Bro. Tim Alsup of Great Oaks Church of Christ officiating. A family graveside burial is planned for 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday May 9th at Soule Chapel Church near Macon, MS with Reverend Michael Lindsay of Indianola First United Methodist Church officiating.
Tom was born on January 18, 1938 to the late Garrett Williams and Emma Mae Bledsoe Taylor in Noxubee County, MS. He was a graduate of Brooksville High School. He served in the U.S. Army from 1959 to 1961 and was stationed in Alaska. He moved to Collierville, TN in 1969, where he lived for over 50 years. He came to Collierville with First National Bank as an assistant branch manager. Tom started his real estate business in 1973 with J.H. Munn of Memphis, TN. He went on to open Tom Taylor Realty in 1977. He would, over the course of his life, purchase T&G Liquors then Tom’s Liquors, both in Collierville, TN. He owned and developed numerous commercial properties, subdivisions, and occasional homebuilding endeavors.
He was a member of the Collierville Optimist Club, the Collierville Rotary Club, and MAAR’s Million Dollar Sales Club. He was recently attending Great Oaks Church of Christ, and he was a long-standing member of Collierville United Methodist Church. Tom’s passions were his family, land, and Ole Miss sports. As he always said, “God isn’t making any more land.”
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Charlene Green Taylor; his second wife, Sue Posey Taylor; two brothers, Benny Taylor and Doc Taylor; and his stepdaughter, Jessica Posey. He is survived by his daughter, Lucy Taylor Young (Roy); stepson Cameron Posey (Maureen); his grandchildren Megan DeLockery (Justin), Taylor Young, Martha Kate Young, Timothy McCrary (Katie), Lexi Gresham (Scott), Hunter McCrary, and Theresa Youngberg (Curtis); and his great-grandchildren William, Lucy, Thomas, Jessi, Reese, Wyatt, Linden, Annie Lynn, Austin, Cameron, Gordon, and Mack. He is also survived by his brother, Robert Wade Taylor; his sister, Dorothy Taylor Folsom; and numerous nieces and nephews.
