Mildred Varner Isom, 97, of Memphis, widow of Jess Eugene Isom, died August 12, 2011.She was the daughter of Luther Ross and Nolie Jones Varner of the Union community near Oxford, MS. She is survived by a daughter, Sherri Isom Pickle (Greg), and a son, Ray Blount (Jody) of Nashville, TN. She leaves one granddaughter: Maribeth Kizer (Brandon), and four grandsons: Jonathan Pickle, Ross Pickle (Anna) of Starkville, MS, Gerald Blount of Dublin, CA, and Dr. Steve Blount (Dr. Elaine) of Franklin, TN.; five great grandchildren: Adi and Kate Kizer, and Madison, Grayson and Carson Blount of Franklin, TN. Family and friends will always remember her love for her Mississippi childhood home, where she learned her Christian values that guided her entire life. She was a previous member of Union West Baptist Church and White Station Baptist Church, and a current member of Kirby Woods Baptist Church. She enjoyed gardening, was a talented seamstress, and a gracious hostess with excellent culinary skills. The family is grateful for the love and care extended to her by the entire staffs of Southerland Place, and, more recently during her final days at Baptist Trinity Hospice House. Visitation will be Sunday, August 14 from 4-6PM. Funeral services Monday, August 15, at 10AM at Collierville Funeral Home, with graveside services at Browning Cemetery near Oxford, MS commencing at 1:30PM.
