Michael Bruce Smith

Michael Bruce Smith of Memphis passed away on April 8, 2025, at home, surrounded by family, after complications due to cancer. Mike was predeceased by his parents, Udell and Geraldine Smith of Jonesboro, Arkansas, and his older brother, Stephen “Rex” Smith of League City, Texas.

He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Jo Ann, and their two sons, Shane Carmichael of Denver, Colorado, and Ryan Carmichael (Jenny) of Germantown, Tennessee. He is also survived by his three grandsons, Knox Carmichael, Miles Carmichael, and Corbin Carmichael; his older brother, David Smith; his sister-in-law, Elizabeth Smith; three nieces and a nephew; as well as several great-nieces and great-nephews.

Mike graduated from Memphis State University with a degree in engineering and enjoyed a long career with Schering-Plough, which later became Merck & Bayer. He had a passion for hiking, camping, canoeing, kayaking, snow skiing, and especially traveling and exploring new places. He also enjoyed studying a variety of topics and expanding his knowledge.

A gathering for friends and family to celebrate Mike’s life and share memories will be held on Thursday, April 24, 2025, from 4:00 pm - 6:00pm at Collierville United Methodist Church, 454 W. Poplar Avenue (Entrance 4), Collierville, TN.
