Mike was born in New Orleans, on November 23, 1950. He earned his Certificate of Public Accountants of Louisiana in 1975, and, in 1977, he met and married Gaye Thomason Donahoe, his wife of 47 years. Mike’s career as a corporate accountant and later an executive financial officer in the restaurant industry took the young couple coast to coast, from Santa Barbara, California, to Rocky Mount, North Carolina. They settled in Germantown in 1986, where they raised their two children.
Mike is preceded in death by his parents, Michael Joseph and Marian Thevenot Donahoe. He is survived by his wife Gaye; his son Michael Christopher Donahoe (Jane); his daughter Jennifer Anglin (Jake); his brother Kevin Donahoe (Debbie); his sister Kathy McFadden (John); and his five grandchildren: Thomas, Gwyn, and John Henry Donahoe; and Jack and Sam Anglin.
He spoke of his nearly 30 years growing up in the Big Easy with fondness and good humor, especially in recounting his formative first job of selling ladies’ shoes on Bourbon Street. He was also known by those who loved him as a technology savant; if there was new tech, you could be sure Mike was going to be one of the first to have it, from Laserdiscs and IBM PCs to iPads and VR headsets and everything in between. He loved his family, reading, cycling, swimming, and fishing. He will be deeply missed.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his memory to the American Cancer Society.
