March 24, 1952 - May 21, 2023
Margaret B. “Peggy” Evans, age 71, retired professor and faculty member of the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) College of Dentistry and College of Health Professions died Sunday, May 21, 2023, supported by loving family members.
Originally from Covington, Tennessee, Peggy moved to Memphis where she attended Immaculate Conception High School. She achieved her bachelor’s degree from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center. She then went on to achieve her Master of Science degree from the University of Missouri, Kansas City; and later, achieved her Doctor of Education from the University of Memphis. Peggy retired after 30+ years of teaching at the UTHSC College of Dentistry, but continued teaching dental students online through A.T. Still University. Peggy was very passionate about education, and she spent her entire career teaching students.
Peggy was most recently a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Memphis. Peggy was the middle child amongst five amazing sisters. She loved and cared for her family like no other. She was incredibly generous, and opened her heart and home to all.
Peggy was married for 15 years to her devoted husband, Bob Evans, a retired Naval Officer. Peggy and Bob were both dog lovers who spent much of their time outdoors and taking on new adventurous hobbies including hiking, biking, and kayaking. She loved to travel, cook, read, and sew.
Strong but kind; serious but hilarious – Peggy loved big and laughed harder! Her legacy will live on through all those she knew and loved.
Peggy is preceded in death by her father, Thomas Roane Waring; her mother, Ann Saunders Waring; her step-daughter-in-law, Niki Evans; and grandniece, Sarah Theobald.
She leaves behind her husband, Bob Evans; stepchildren, Kelly W, Joe W (Amy) and Emily Mitchell; step-grandchildren, Brady, Delaney, Brooklyn, Graham, Ashlyn and Evan; and, her four sisters Mary Ann Byrd, Nancy Szurpicki-Richardson (Jamie), Patty Bridges (Roy) and Alma Leach. She also leaves behind nine nieces and nephews, and over 30 grand and great nieces and nephews.
A private family service will be held at West Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery.
