John Marion Slayton, III, age 58, of Memphis, died at home on Friday, November 28, 2014 after a battle with aspiration pneumonia. John was preceded in death by his father, John M. Slayton, Jr., and his sister, Cindy Long. He is survived by his mother, Regina Z. Slayton of Memphis, his daughters, Shannon Slayton Haynes and husband Loren of Alamo, and Jennifer Slayton and fiance’ Duke Leyman of Memphis. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Ella Cate and Henry Haynes of Alamo, brother, Richard Slayton and wife Susan as well as two nieces, Carrie Long and Melissa Slayton and one nephew, Chad Long.
John was a lover of life and lived it to the fullest. He was quite the charmer. He was always right in the middle of the party, wherever it might be and was sure to make everyone laugh. When he came in the room, everyone noticed him, as he was sure to be the best dressed man in the room. He was so good looking that his nieces and nephews all affectionately called him “Uncle Ugly”.
The celebration of his life will be at Collierville Funeral Home, 534 W. Poplar Ave., Collierville, TN on Tuesday, December 2nd at 6pm with visitation beginning at 5pm. He always loved happy hour.
As an 8 year cancer survivor, John wanted to find a cure for cancer. Therefore, in lieu of flowers, his family requests donations in his memory to the American Cancer Society Relay for Life or St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
