On Saturday, October 12, 2024, John (Mickey) Elgin Harper, loving husband and father of three children, passed away at the age of 84. He was born May 10, 1940, in Washington D.C to the late Lewis Ellis and Penny Harper (Vines).
John graduated from the University of Alabama and later served in both the Army and Air National Guard. He was a research chemist for several paint companies for over thirty years, with his last years of service at Sherwin Williams in Cleveland, Ohio. He was an avid contract bridge player who achieved the rank of Gold Life Master. He was also a passionate Alabama fan and follower of SEC football. John was a devout Christian who lived a life of service and faithfully attended Bellevue Baptist Church and Collierville First Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife Jerri Harper, father Lewis, mother Penny, and brother David Harper. He is survived by his children Richard Harper of The Woodlands, TX, Jessica Tupper (Jon) of Collierville, TN, Jason Harper (Melissa) of Knoxville, TN, his grandchildren Charlie and Alexa Harper, Hudson and Laurel Tupper, and Dylan and Merritt Harper.
Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 17, 2024 at Collierville First Baptist Church, 830 New Byhalia Road, Collierville, Tennessee with visitation an hour prior to service. Rotunda service to follow at 1:00 PM at West Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery.
