Graduating from both Harding Academy of Memphis and the University of Tennessee at Martin, Janice went on to have a long career in the corporate world that sent her all over the country. Later, she retired from International Paper. Whatever her endeavor or role, Janice made a marked difference in others’ lives.
A rare combination of beauty and strength, Janice used humor to connect with all around. Friendship to her meant lifelong friendship, and she was a fierce advocate for all whom she loved. For many, Janice was an anchor who brought calm through troubled waters.
Tennessee Camp for Diabetic Children, TCDC, was Janice’s haven, not only through her childhood and teen years when she was a camper and later a counselor, but also through her adult life. From all walks of life, from many different areas, the TCDC community loves one another, for they share the same journey. To her, they were a treasure.
Janice leaves the love of her life, her husband of 24 years, Jimmy Stacy, her beautiful daughter, Heather Marie Downes, her sisters, Linda Dianne Gatlin, Sandra Gatlin King (Mark), and her many nieces, nephews, and even grand-nieces. She is preceded in death by her parents, Mattie Ruth Bell Gatlin and Luther E. Gatlin, Jr. Additionally, she leaves her fur babies, whom she adored, Ralphie, the chug, and Marie, the cat.
Visitation will be held at Collierville Funeral Home, 3863 Bailey Station Road, Collierville, TN, on Friday, July 14 at 12:00, followed by a service at 2:00. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Tennessee Camp for Diabetic Children, 1854 Joseph Terrace, Hixson, TN 37343.
