Harry J. Stewart Jr., ninety years old of Memphis, TN passed away on Wednesday evening October 19, 2016 after a short illness. He was born in Memphis, TN where he graduated from Central High School. Harry enlisted in the Navy in February of 1944, where he served as a radio operator. After his military service he attended the University of Mississippi obtaining a Bachelor's Degree in Business Management. He furthered his education at the University of Memphis, where he obtained a Masters in Education. One of the great loves of his life was as a teacher. Harry taught at Messick High School and then White Station High School until retiring in 1987. During his retirement, he and his wife enjoyed traveling around the country on their motorcycle, in their RV, sailing the oceans in their sail boat and learning to fly in his 70's. Next to his love for his wife he dearly loved his family. He enjoyed spending time with their grand children and their great grand children. He is preceded in death by his wife Jane Phillips, they were married 59 years. Harry is survived by his two sons: Mark Stewart (Kim) of Collierville, TN and Ken Stewart (Sherry) of Germantown, TN. He is also survived by four grand children: John Stewart (Leslie) of Batesville, MS, Drew Stewart (Aimee) of Collierville, TN, LeeAnn Stewart of Germantown, TN, and Kenzie Stewart of Germantown, TN. Harry is also survived by two great-grand children.
There will be a gathering of family and friends Saturday, October 22, 2016 beginning at 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Collierville Funeral Home. Services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, October 23 at the Sanctuary on the Square. Interment will take place in West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery.
