Diane Shelton Douglas, beloved mother, wife, daughter, sister, aunt, neighbor and friend, departed this life on July 3, 2022 after a short but valiant fight against cancer. Diane was born to John and Rita (Murnahan) Shelton in Ironton, Ohio on September 14, 1959. She spent much of her childhood and young adult years in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and lived near the beach in San Diego, California, Ocean Springs, Mississippi and Pensacola, Florida, before settling in Collierville, Tennessee for the past 23 years. She is survived by her husband of 37 years, Philip Douglas and her cherished son, Caelan Douglas, an aerospace engineer who resides in Jacksonville, Florida. Diane is also survived by her mother, siblings Beverly (Shelton) Rogers and spouse Jimbo, John Shelton and spouse Terran, Joyce (Shelton) Demouy and spouse Jimmy, Sue Shelton Edwards and Scott Shelton and spouse Nancy. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins in Louisiana and Ohio. She was preceded in death by her father and sisters Vicki and Janet Shelton, as well as her adored fur-babies, Bonzai and Roxy, all of whom undoubtedly welcomed Diane with open arms (and paws). Diane volunteered for and worked as the Executive Director and events coordinator for the Collierville Education Foundation for over 10 years, providing invaluable support for her community, and spent most of her free time helping others. She was a member of both elementary and middle school PTA organizations to further her work with the schools. She also volunteered to assist and organize events for her son’s athletic endeavors including the Collierville High School Swim Team and the Alabama Equestrian Team. She was an amazing cook, who loved food and wine and feeding people. She was also an avid gardener, with an amazing ability with plants, and enjoyed spending time in her yard. Diane was generous and thoughtful, always with a carefully selected and perfectly wrapped gift in hand. She was frank and fun-loving and bold, quick with a laugh and a sharp retort. Diane is gone too soon and will be deeply missed. Her family is grateful that she spent her last days at home surrounded by loved ones. A visitation for Diane will be held on July 9, 2022 from 2 to 4pm at Collierville United Methodist Church, 454 W. Poplar Ave., Collierville, Tennessee 38017. For those who wish to remember Diane with a gift, her family requests donations to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital, in Diane’s memory, or to any charity of choice, in lieu of flowers.
