Dan went by many names, but the one he was most proud of was “Pop”. He loved and was loved deeply by his wife Celia Swift Rosser. Sweethearts since the sixth grade, Dan and Celia (Sis) were married on October 2, 1970. However, sixty-one years as a couple was not quite long enough. Further illustrating their love, Dan and Celia had two daughters, Leslie Danielle and Lauren Denise. He never missed an opportunity to brag on his girls, whom he nicknamed “The Blond Bombers” and was always happy to let others know of their accomplishments. Quite possibly his greatest joy, though, were his boys, Cullen Scott and Hudson Daniel. Pop’s boys were his heart, and he did everything in this world he could to show them how much he loved them.
A deep lover of cars, Dan was groomed early by his Uncle Ray to work at his Gulf Service Station. Eventually, Dan owned Bailey Station Gulf for many years before selling and going to NAPA and later AutoZone. Dan was always a very hard-worker and would do whatever it took to take care of the family he loved so much.
Anyone who knew Dan knew how much he loved racing, whether NASCAR, drag racing or a Friday night at Riverside Motor Speedway for Celia’s sixteenth birthday. Many years later, he would steal Cullen away for a Friday night race experience as well. Dan loved taking his girls to race go-karts on their yearly vacation to Panama City Beach, Florida, and continued that tradition with his grandsons. His fondness of cars was evident every time you saw him, because you could ensure he would have on one of his beloved car shirts. Another passion of Dan’s was duck hunting, which inspired the name of one of his favorite dogs, Camo.
Dan professed his faith in Jesus, and his family rests in the knowledge of his Salvation and knowing that they will all be reunited once again. He was a man truly loved by many.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Josephine Harris Rosser and Steve Jefferson Rosser. Dan is survived by his wife, Celia, daughters Leslie and Lauren, grandsons Cullen and Hudson, sister Jane Ellen, and a host of nieces and nephews who will miss his larger than life personality greatly.
Dan’s arrangements are as follows:
Friday, April 5, 2024 at Collierville Funeral Home. Visitation with the family will be held from 5 pm - 7 pm with a celebration of life to follow at 7 pm.
In lieu of flowers, Dan wanted donations to be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
