Cynthia Lynn Stanley, born August 19, 1963, in Tampa, FL to Wayne Stanley and Anna Mae Long Stanley, she died of pancreatic cancer April 21, 2022, in Memphis, TN. Survived by her husband; Erich Shultz, sister; Judi (Ed) Long of Saulsbury, TN, niece; Jenifer (Alan) Davis of Southaven, MS, nephew; Eddie Long of Hickory Valley, TN, great-nieces; Kayla Brown, Alison Davis, Emily Davis, great-nephew; Austin Davis and dogs; Jean Louise "Scout" and Samwise.
Cynthia graduated from Mizzou, taught at West Plains, MO, Senatobia High School and Center Hill High School in Desoto County, MS. She taught English, Language and Literature as well as love of reading and learning, traveling and good character. Not only was she selected as Star Teacher several times, but also led numerous student trips, both domestic and foreign. In addition, she served several times as a reader scoring AP exams, participated in Rural Voices Mississippi Writers Project, was selected to the 2009 Horace Mann study program on Abraham Lincoln in Springfield, IL, to the 2003 Rotary Exchange visit to Nottingham England, and to the National Endowment for Arts program, "Shakespeare: Theater for a New Audience." She loved Shakespeare, Lincoln, Jane Austin, everything Beatles and many of her students, more than a few reciprocating.
She requested no funeral or memorial service to be held. Former students and travelers are invited and welcomed to contact Smedley at [email protected] and to inquire about receiving a shirt or other travel/literary artifact.
