BILL C. TAYLOR, passed away after a long and valiant battle with cancer on April 9, 2015. He was born on November 25, 1930 in Ashland, Mississippi to Samuel P. and Millie Lee Ethma (Simpson) Taylor, the fourth of five children. He served in the U.S. Air Force National Guard during the Korean War. After his military service ended,he was successful in several automotive high performance manufacturing businesses including BTE Racing in Mt. Pleasant, MS, along with drag racing top fuel dragsters and funny cars for a number of years and being an active track owner of Lakeland International Raceway in Memphis. He is survived by daughters, Jane Barrentine and Debra Roberson, grandchildren, Shawn McDaniel, Brandon Barrentine and Allison West, along with six great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson and his youngest brother, Samuel F. Taylor of Ripley, MS and his second wife, Jewell Taylor. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 58 years, Sara Dimple (Vaughn) Taylor of Memphis, TN, his parents and sister, Retha (Taylor) Massengill of Ashland, MS, and brothers, Ruben Hugh Taylor of Ashland, MS and Lee Earnest Taylor of Lakeland, TN. He was a life-long Baptist and an active member of First Baptist Church in Mt. Pleasant, MS at the time of his death. In lieu of flowers, the family requests any memorials be sent to either St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, TN, the Wounded Warrior Project or charity of their choice. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 15 at the Collierville Funeral Home on Poplar Avenue in Collierville, TN. The burial will be private.
