Austin Embry Smith, 73, lost his battle with cancer on October 9, 2021. Left behind to mourn his passing are his wife of 49 years, Anne Anthony Smith of Collierville, TN; daughter Laura Smith Taylor (Patrick) of Jackson, MS; daughter Jennifer Smith-Camejo (Federico) of Oakland, CA; son David Austin Smith of Collierville, TN; and granddaughters Mary Embry and Annabeth Campbell Taylor of Jackson, MS.
Austin was born April 11, 1948, in Memphis to Maj. Leonard Austin, USAF, and Lucille Embry Smith. Being in a military family, he lived in various cities before the family returned to Memphis. He graduated from White Station High School where he played basketball before attending Lambuth College where he was a Kappa Sigma and graduating from Memphis State.
Austin married his sweetheart, Anne Anthony, in 1971. Together they raised their three children while moving several times in the southeast. Austin and Anne settled in Collierville where he worked for and retired from Smith and Nephew.
Austin was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Linda Smith Herd.
His family will receive friends beginning at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, October 13th until the memorial service starts at 2:00 p.m. with a reception following, all at Collierville Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to the Collierville Animal Shelter (colliervilletn.gov) or the Collierville Burch Library (colliervilletn.gov/library.)
