In loving memory of our mother Susan (Sue) Diana Cote, age 75, of Ennis, Texas who passed away peacefully with family and friends by her side Sunday, January 21, 2024, at home in Colleyville, TX. Sue called Ennis, Texas home for over 20+ years, but when she could no longer care for herself, she divided her time between her 2 daughter’s homes, Cheryl Standon in Colleyville, Texas and Karen Wood in North Richland Hills, Texas. Where she was able to spend quality time with her daughters, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Sue touched the lives of so many and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Our mother was a kind, caring, giving, and trusting person (to her own detriment at times) who always put the needs of others before her own. She was born August 1, 1948, in Columbus, Ohio and was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer O. Ward and Florence Madeline Kelley, grandparents Harold and Neva Freeman, Uncle Jimmy Freeman and sister Carol Yeager. Sue is survived by and was the loving mother of Cheryl Standon and Karen Wood (Don Wood). Beloved grandmother to Alina Marr (Austin Marr), Spencer Standon, Collin Standon, Ashleigh Wood (Austin Williams) and Colby Wood. Beloved great grandmother to Connor Stovall and Brooklin Lounds. Beloved sister to Vickie Metzler and Sandy Cabakoff (Dallas "Ed" Fairall). Beloved Aunt to Teresa Brewer, Shannon Adkins, Sarah Metzler, Darrick Metzler, Rachel Cabakoff and Aimee Cabakoff.
Sue was a strong woman who faced every challenge in life with courage and dignity. She was a cancer survivor, when diagnosed with Parkinson's and eventually Lewy Body Dementia she did not initially share her diagnoses with her family because she did not want them to worry about her. Our mother was a source of inspiration to us all and she will be deeply missed by everyone whose lives she touched.
Sue was a woman of strong faith, and she instilled in us the importance of family, hard work and doing what is right. She is a long-time honorary member of the American Legion Auxiliary 361, in Ennis, Texas where she dedicated her time to helping military veterans. She served as Legion Auxiliary President in 2014 and 2015, as well as other offices at both the unit and district level. She also volunteered her time at the Dallas VA hospital. She was an avid advocate for animals which is one of the reasons she moved to Ennis, TX so she could have space to rescue Horses, dogs, and some cats. We are certain our mother was not only met in heaven by family/friends but a menagerie of the animals she rescued and loved with all her heart. Our mother was a true role model to whom we will always look up to.
Mom you will always be in our hearts, and we will never forget you. We love you so much. Rest in Peace.
