ROBERT MCLEAN BATTEN, of Colleyville, Texas, went to be with our Lord on Friday May 12, 2023. He will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather to all that knew and loved him. He was born on May 23, 1937 in the District of Columbia, Washington, DC to Percy Eugene Batten and Eleanor Marie Schlegel.
Bob retired as District Service Manager after a long successful career with GM Cadillac in Detroit. Upon retirement he enjoyed building and flying RC Airplanes. He was a member of Greater Southwest Aero Modelers located in Fort Worth, Texas. Bob enjoyed the camaraderie of flying with other members of the club. One of his great joys in life was when his sons and and their families took him to EAA AirVenture Oshkosh, WI. Bob enjoyed trap & skeet at the Arlington Sportsman Club in Mansfield, Texas. Bob was an avid reader and enjoyed military history including World War II of which his uncle “Skeeter”served in the Marines and was the first to step foot on Japanese soil. His uncle received a special commendation award presented to him personally from the President of the United States. Bob especially enjoyed learning about the longest war in the history of the U.S. The America Indian Wars.
Bob is survived by his wife of almost 65 years, Patricia A. Kittle of Colleyville, Texas; sons Todd M. Batten (Debbie) and Kurt R. Batten (Trish), grandchildren Aaron T. Batten, Kendall L. Batten and Casey N. Batten. Bob was preceded in death by his sisters: Barbara Batten Fecteau and Patricia Batten Alessi.
The funeral service will be held at Peace Lutheran Church located at 941 W. Bedford Euless Rd, Hurst, Texas 76053 on Wednesday, May 24, 2023 at 11:00 am with visitation beginning at 10:00 am. Reception to follow after the service in the church fellowship hall. A Memorial Service will be held in June at Ghent Union Cemetery, Ghent, New York where Bob will be interred.
