He was the eldest of four and was deeply loved by his three sisters; Ruth Ann Barton of Boise, Idaho, Marilyn Utley of Lakeville, Indiana, and Marcia Carr-Riegel (Taylor) of Berkley, Michigan. He attended Plymouth High School in Plymouth, Michigan where he met and fell in love with his sweetheart Carolyn Batterton. Married June 1957, and together they stayed side by side for 67 wonderful years.
He was blessed with two children; Cheryl Russell of Frisco, Texas, Michael Carr (Peggy) of Fenton, Michigan, and three fabulous grandchildren; Zachary Russell (Emily) of Aubrey, Texas, Riley Russell (Jen) of Austin Texas, and Morgan Carr of Fenton Michigan.
Richard loved the Lord, his family, woodworking, crossword and jigsaw puzzles, and admiring and tinkering with classic cars.
He spent many years serving the Lord as a church Deacon, choir member, Assistant Sunday School Superintendent, and Song Leader at Calvary Baptist Church in Canton, Michigan.
Dick retired as a very skilled pipefitter, and worked many, many hours with the Volunteer Christian Builders of Grapevine, Texas building churches all over the country.
When Richard was using his voice singing or sharing stories, or his hands to create, build or repair he was truly a happy man.
Whether you called him Richard, Dick, Dad, Grandpa, Boppy or Uncle -- he loved you dearly. He will be greatly missed here on earth; however, he would want us to know that most assuredly his tenor voice is singing loud, and he is laughing hard, smiling big with his new heavenly teeth, and joyously sharing stories with all his family and friends that greeted him with open arms and huge hugs, alongside his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at the gates of Heaven.
