Paula fought a decade long battle with ALS, and finally passed peacefully into the arms of her Savior, Jesus Christ, on February 4, 2020, surrounded by her family. Paula was born on April 30, 1944 in Texarkana, Arkansas to Paul Franklin and Mary Lucile Stanphill. Paula graduated from Texas High School in 1962 and married Lewis Compton in 1963. They had three daughters, Paige, Kelli, and Candace.
Paula said her greatest accomplishment in life was raising her three girls. When the girls were young, she was active in PTA and was a Girl Scouts leader. Paula later became a teacher’s aide for special needs students in the late 70’s. She enjoyed working with these students and was a kind and compassionate teacher. When she left education, Paula became an executive assistant and later retired from Wilson’s Sporting Goods. She enjoyed her time working there with her dear friend, David Terre. In 1992, Paula married William Glenn. During this time, she became active in ranching and was a member of the North Richland Hills Riding Club. She loved her horses, Aristocrat, Paycheck, and Lorilei, and looked forward to reuniting with them in Heaven. Paula also dearly loved her grandchildren, Alex, Savanna, Justin, and Carlie.
Paula is survived by her brother, Sonny Stanphill; daughters: Paige Compton Scarbrough (Mike), Kelli Compton McGowan (Shannon), and Candace Compton; grandchildren, Alex Ferguson and Savanna Scarbrough, Justin and Carlie Glenn; and niece, Suzanne Stanphill. Paula was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Lucile Stanphill; sister, Mary Janice Stanphill Leahy; niece, Shannon Stanphill; and husband, William Glenn.
Paula’s Memorial Service will be held at 12:30 on Monday, February 17, 2020 at Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Home Chapel in Colleyville, TX with a reception afterwards. Interment will follow in Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the ALS Association.
