Oleta Mae Hunsucker Smith was born in Denton, Texas to Eular D. and Mattie Belle [McCulley] Hunsucker on August 13, 1923. She passed away on Saturday, April 27, 2019 at the age of 95 while residing at Hurst Plaza Nursing Home.
“Leta,” as she was primarily known, wasn’t able to complete high school due to a serious injury to her father just prior to her high school years, and the fact her mother didn’t drive. She went to work to help support her family. As an adult, she was employed primarily as a bank teller, in sales, and as an owner/operator of two ceramic shops. She was industrious, creative and loved interacting with people. She was a member of the Shady Grove Baptist Church, North Richland Hills, TX.
She is preceded in death by her parents, by two brothers and a sister, and by her husband, Jesse C. Smith III.
She is survived by her son, Dr. Gary L. Buckner and Pat, his wife, of Alamogordo, NM; by two daughters: Catherine (Cathy) Smith Starnes and James, her husband, of Bedford, TX and Virginia (Ginny) Smith Collins and Terry, her husband, of Watauga, TX, and by one brother, Billy Hunsucker and Peggy, his wife, of Keller, TX; 7 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Thursday 6-8 pm, with funeral service Friday, May 3, 2019 at 12:30 PM at Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Home, Colleyville, TX.
