Mary was born in Sabinas Hidalgo, Nuevo León, Mexico and was the oldest of 5 children. She married the love of her life, Fred Monks at 18 years old and they were married for 59 years.
Generosity was one of Mary’s greatest assets. She would give you the shirt off of her back, literally. She was constantly thinking of things she could do for others. Mary was about people and making sure they were happy. She carried that over into her career. At age 50, she became a flight attendant for American Eagle. She enjoyed traveling and truly loved her job of 18 years, where she was so proud to be recognized as Flight Attendant of the Year.
The one thing she loved the most in the world was family. Her 4 children, 7 grandchildren and 1 great grand-child were her greatest joys. She loved having big family gatherings and made every holiday extra special with wonderful dinners, music and games (her favorite being Bingo and Loteria).
Faith was a very important part of Mary’s life. She was an active member of Woodland Heights Baptist church where she and her husband enjoyed sunday school and worship.
Mary is preceded in death by her parents Elvira and Ambrosio Gomez. She is survived by her husband, Fred Monks Sr.; their four children, Fred Monks Jr. (Karla), Elvera Henderson (Kelly), Stephanie Snow (Charlie), Tommy Monks (Stephanie); her grandchildren, Crystal (Ross), Merissa (Zack), Kerissa, Daniel, Michele, Makayla and Leo; great grand-daughter Mckenna; her brothers, Daniel Gomez (Maria) and Ambrosio Gomez Jr.; her sisters, Olga Salinas (Ricardo) and Linda Ramirez (Rogelio). She is also survived by numerous loving nieces and nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
The family would like to thank the caregivers, nurses, doctors and friends who cared for Mary. We are so grateful for the love and compassion you showed her.
