Leonard Jr, also known as “Jette” was born August 12, 1962 in Odessa, Texas to Leonard and Joyce Hobbs.
He grew up in the Phillips 66 petroleum camp in Goldsmith, Texas. He moved with his family to Midland in 1974 where later he graduated Robert E Lee High school in 1980.
He attended Texas A&M University, where he was a member of the corps, played Dungeons and Dragons, and earned a Bachelor's degree in math and computer science.
He made his home in Dallas’ uptown area. After enjoying a career as a computer code writer at SBC Wireless, Jette managed the Math and Science section of Half Price Books’ flagship store. Later, he joined the family team of Parkit Market food store.
Jette had a zest for life, a sharp wit and generous heart. As a hobby, he designed a computer program searching for prime numbers. He was an avid reader, a fan of Lord of the Rings, and a collector of classic films, music, and comics. He enjoyed listening to Gustav Mahler from the balcony of the Meyerson Symphony. He took great pleasure in sports radio, especially baseball. He kept a lifelong passion for rescuing stray cats and providing them a home.
Jette was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard Jette Hobbs, Sr. and Joyce Iverne (Kent) Hobbs. He is survived by his sister Celia Burkheimer, her husband Rex, life partner Sherri Shelton, and his beloved cat, Silver.
A memorial service for Jette will be held Saturday, April 27, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Park, Colleyville, Texas, with a reception to follow.
