Larry Kay Vowell of Trophy Club, Texas passed away on February 21, 2023. He was born in Fort Worth, Texas on August 25, 1944. Larry graduated from Paschal High School in Fort Worth and then attended Texas Wesleyan University, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree. He later earned a Master of Arts degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.
Larry met Brenda Colyer at church, and their faith played an important role in their relationship as they dated and were eventually married on June 25, 1965. Larry’s fifty-plus years in Christian ministry began as a Music, Education, and Youth Minister at Southside Baptist Church in Irving while he was still in college. He later served at several Baptist churches in Texas: Northway in Dallas, Mobberly in Longview, Columbus Avenue in Waco, and First Baptist in Grapevine. He also served in the Waco and Collin County Baptist Associations.
Larry was an avid golfer and Dr. Pepper memorabilia collector. He and Brenda loved to travel and made several trips to the Holy Land. He cherished his daughters and their husbands and children and enjoyed keeping up with his grandkids’ activities. Larry’s love for those around him was obvious in his commitment to his wife, family, and friends.
Larry is survived by his wife of fifty-seven years and two loving daughters, Laura Lavender of Dallas and her husband Greg, and Julie Adkins of Trophy Club and her husband Doug, along with five grandchildren: Garrison, Graham, and Alaina Lavender, and Sterling and Rowen Adkins. He is also survived by his brother, Tommy Vowell, and his wife Margie.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday February 25 at 3:00 pm at Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Home located at 5725 Colleyville Blvd, Colleyville, TX 76034.
