Kimberly L. Lonergan, age 67, of Haslet, Texas passed away on Good Friday, April 7, 2023. Kim Downs was born in St. Louis, MO On March 27, 1956. She attended High School at Fort Zumwalt in O’Fallon, MO. She received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Harding University in Searcy, Arkansas. She received her Master of Science in Nursing from Abilene Christian University in Abilene, TX.
She was married to Philip Kent Smith on May 8, 1976, and they had their son, Blake, in 1982.
She married Brian J Lonergan on April 11, 2000, in Jamaica.
Kim was comfortable in her occupation as a nurse, whether working Careflite, or in the Emergency Room. As a Critical Care Nurse, Kim thrived on the adrenaline rush but was, also, concerned about the well -being of her patients. She was briefly a COO of a hospital which expanded her base of knowledge in the field of nursing.
Shortly after she married Brian Lonergan, he introduced her to the pharmaceutical world. She always said, “I can’t work for one of those companies because I can’t and don’t like to sell”. She soon found out that there was more to do at a Pharmaceutical Company than selling. She started on a 20-year journey as a Medical Science Liaison. Kim started with Astra Zeneca (AZ) and found that she had a true calling for educating medical professionals. She developed many relationships at AZ that have lasted over the years. After 10 years, she moved on to Otsuka Pharmaceutical America. She expanded her knowledge base but also was able to bring innovation to her new company. She was stellar at her job and received many accolades over the years. In pursuit of excellence at work, she took pride in mentoring fellow employees. Kim was Regional Director Field Medical Affairs CNS when she passed away. Kim will always be remembered as a Go-Getter, a High Achiever, an intelligent and passionate colleague, a Giver in the true sense of the word, a shoulder to lean on and, most of all, a genuine awesome person to be around. She inspired so many and will continue to do so.
Kim loved and was dearly loved by her parents, her son, her extended family and her work colleagues. She acquired 6 new sons, 2 daughters-in-law, 8 grandkids and 5 great grandkids when she married Brian. She loved them all dearly and expressed that by over buying for them every chance she got. She, also, spoiled them and anyone who was around with enough food to feed an army. Kim loved to cook, entertain, travel, wear beautiful shoes and purses, and give and receive backrubs. She spoiled everyone.
Kim is preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Ruth Downs. She is survived by her husband, Brian Lonergan, her son, Philip “Blake” Smith, 6 stepsons, Jason, Joel, Aaron, Andy, Brendan, Hayden Lonergan, 8 grandkids, 5 great grandkids and her sister, Lisa Downs Dickison and 2 nephews, and 7 great nieces and nephew.
