Kenneth Frederick Ott, 84 of Frederick, Colorado passed away peacefully in his home on March 2, 2024, surrounded by his loved ones after a short battle with aggressive blood cancer. Kenneth, known by Ken to his friends and family, was born in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin on June 3, 1939, son of Orville and Loretta (Wegener) Ott and grew up on a farm in nearby Columbus. Ken was well known for his strong work ethic, which was formed in his childhood when he moved out on his own at the age of 12 after the premature death of his father. He lived with friends and eventually at a neighboring farm where he worked for room and board. He attended school and played sports while working various jobs to earn spending money. In high school Ken was captain of the football team, vice president of the letterman club, and graduated from Columbus High School in 1957.
After graduation, Ken joined the United States Air Force where he was stationed at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. He proudly served his country for four years, plus an additional two years on active reserves. After his time in the Air Force, Ken moved to Fort Worth, TX where he started a family as well as what would turn out to be a 50-year career in banking, banking computer software, and IT infrastructure.
After a brief stint working in Lubbock, Ken moved back to Fort Worth in 1981 and eventually worked for EDS where he had to consistently commute to New Jersey and California. In 1991, he stopped commuting and he and his family moved to the small community of Louisville, Colorado. He took early retirement from EDS in 1996 but was not ready to stop working and eventually landed at an IT infrastructure company called Microcomputer World (eventually TIG). Ken worked as an operations manager, as he had a unique ability for operational efficiency. That ability served him well as one of the company’s customers was enamored by his ability for efficiency and how it served them, eventually leading to the customer requesting that Ken be their sales representative. Ken was salesmen of the year at TIG numerous times, as an operations manager. He eventually retired in 2010 and moved to Frederick, Colorado in 2014.
Outside of work Ken could always be seen supporting, coaching, or teaching his kids and grandkids with whatever they were into, from baseball, to football, to cars, to dirt bikes, to drive-in movies with giant bags of popcorn and coolers full of drinks. Outside of work and family activities, Ken spent much of his free time serving others. He was modest and reserved and influenced others by his actions and the example he set. He was particularly known for his willingness to help no matter the situation. Those that knew him recall things that Ken helped them with, from fixing cars, finishing basements, building fences, landscaping yards, and turning windows into doors to opening his home to those in need. Ken was always willing to help and most often never even had to be asked. Philippians 2:4 says “do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others.”
Ken is survived by his wife of 43 years Mary Lou, children Joey, Jeff, DeeDee, Beth (Brian), Mike (Megan) and Matt (Jennifer), grandchildren Michael (Jessica), Lindsey (Cody), Ashley (Travis), Christy (Ben), Cassy (Chase), Sarah (Patrick), Jonathan (Emily), Stephen, Phillip (Jacee), Amanda, Shelby, Samantha, Kora, Kasen, Lucas and Vivian, great grandchildren, Landry Belle, Everette, Lawson, Lane, Truitt, Maggie Jean , Joshua, Rylan, Corbin, Seth, Ryan, Ella, Jaden, Leo, Addie, Auggie, Parker, Brooks, Hux, Tucker, Sheldon and Elliot, brothers Larry and Alonzo (Lynn), sisters Carol (Joseph), Sandra, and Lorri (Jerry), sister in-law Denise, as well as Mary Lou’s “adopted son” Les (Traci) and their daughter Sara.
