John Paul Longyear of Bedford, Texas passed away in Baylor Hospital in Grapevine, Texas on June 2, 2021. He will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather, and was a good friend to all who knew him. He was born on July 20, 1949 in White Plains, New York to John K. and Ruth DeJeu Longyear. After the death of his birth father,his mother remarried, and John was raised by Thomas and Ruth Eaton in Hawthorne, New York.
John went to college at St. Lawrence University in Canton, New York where he met his wife, Christine, and graduated in 1971. He soon went to work at Metric & Multistandard Components Corp., first as a salesman in the New York office, and later as Branch Manager of the Texas office. He became involved with the Southwestern Fastener Association, and was chosen as their Chairman in 1991. He formed many business friendships across the United States and Germany. He loved traveling to new places, both to appreciate different cultures, and to stay close to those friends who knew him well.
All his life John loved playing sports, especially soccer, golf, snow skiing, swimming, and running. He coached soccer for many years, played until the age of 66, and liked to watch his daughter and grandchildren continue his enjoyment of sports. John also was a long-time member of Martin
United Methodist Church in Bedford, Texas. The guiding principle of his life was his faith in Jesus Christ, and he knew that only with God's help can we get through all the good and bad times that life brings to us.
John is survived by his wife, Christine Longyear of Bedford, Texas, and his daughter Serena Joy Smith and grandchildren Caydence and Caeson Smith of Colleyville, Texas. He's also survived by his sister, Judy (and Tom) Rich of Santa Clarita, CA and his brothers, Jerry (and Deborah) Longyear of Danbury, CT, Frank (and Michelle) Eaton of Hawthorne, NY, and Tim Eaton (and Bob Barbero) of New York City, NY. In addition, John is survived by many cousins, nieces, and nephews that he loved dearly.
John's funeral service will be held on July 24, 2021 at 3:00 pm at the Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Home in Colleyville, Texas. Interment will follow at Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Park after the service.
