J. R. loved his west Texas roots and anyone who knew him knew he loved to talk about the Rattlesnake Roundup in Sweetwater, Tennis (TEXAS JR. Davis Cup TENNIS TEAM-1950), his love for our United States of America, being a US Air Force Korean War Veteran and Volunteering.
Jerry attended Hardin Simmons University where he earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in 1957 and a Master of Business Administration in 1958. From 1958 until his retirement in 1990, he was in management for JC Penney Corporation. In 1990 he received his real estate license where he joined Century 21 Mike Bowman, Inc. Over the years he received his Commercial Pilot License, inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame-Hardin Simmons University-1996, James Cash Penney award for volunteer in HEB ISD-1992-2014, Fort Worth Star Telegram Northeast Tarrant County Man of the Year in 2001, and served on numerous Boards throughout the HEB area.
Jerry is preceded in death by his beautiful wife of 66 years, Carolyn Kay (Hill) Goad and his amazing son, Ronald Kevin Goad. He is survived by his daughter, Celia Jones Scroggins and her husband Mark, daughter-in-law, Mary Jane Goad and brother-in-law, Dr. Van D. Hill and his wife Anne their daughters Kelley Stark and her family and Hayley Hoffman and her family. J. R. is also survived by grandsons Jeremy C. Jones his wife Kelly and their son Tucker. Corey J. Jones, his wife Alyssa and their son Benjamin and daughter Clare. Harrison C. Goad and wife Jamie. He is also survived by Mark’s daughters Nicole Pruitt and her family and Megan Scroggins and her family.
Visitation will be held, Friday August 16, 2024 at Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Home (Colleyville) from 6pm-8pm. Funeral service will be held at Cross City Euless on Saturday, August 17 at 11am and burial at Bluebonnet Hills.
Jerry loved his family, friends and most of all Jesus Christ his Lord and Savior. Or as he more affectionately referred to him, “The Big Man Upstairs”!!!
