James was born August 30, 1942, in Houston, Texas, to Ela Mae Hoffman and Herbert James Hoffman, who precede him in death. He was their only child. He leaves behind a loving wife of 58 years, Patricia Hoffman; three educated daughters, Tracy Hoffman, Brenda Hoffman, and Jamie Hoffman; and Chance Reagan, a grandson he adored.
He attended Diamond Hill-Jarvis High School and graduated from Tremble Tech High School. During the Vietnam War, James was drafted, but said his grandmother’s prayers kept him out of the conflict. Instead, he served in West Germany as an Army Medic. He and Pat also visited England, France, and other nearby countries. James received an Associate Degree from Tarrant County Junior College in electrical engineering. He also took flying lessons and was proud to solo and get his pilot’s license.
At the age of 40, James “retired” from the appliance repair business, but he never stopped working. He had an entrepreneurial spirit, a hard work ethic, and did whatever it took to take care of his family. He drove a furniture truck, ran a pawn shop, and even drove to and from an antique toy show in New York. Garage sales, estate sales, flea markets, and auctions made him happy, and making money from his finds brought him great joy. He consistently sold items on Ebay and Amazon, even at age 80.
James lived a good, long life, and he was ready to go. While in his twenties, he accepted Christ, thanks to the ministry of Jack Collins. James was never shy about saying what he thought, and he told people about Jesus. He would want everybody to be prepared to meet Jesus and him on the other side of eternity. Friends and family will miss him but are comforted knowing he and his best friend Donald Williams are in heaven helping Jesus “prepare a place” for us.
Family will receive friends for a visitation on Friday December 16, 2022 from 5pm-7pm at Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Home, located at 5725 Colleyville Blvd, Colleyville Texas 76034
A funeral service will take place on Saturday, December 17, 2022 at 12pm, also at Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Home. Burial will take place immediately after in the Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Park.
