Frank W. Hames, 88, passed away on June 5, 2024, in Keller, Texas. He was born to Frank and Reva Hames on April 1, 1936, in Chico, Texas. He resided in Fort Worth and surrounding areas most of his life. He graduated from Amon Carter Riverside High School and attended night school and North Texas University and Texas Wesleyan College. In 1955, he married Carol Lee Cooper who was his lifetime sweetheart and dance partner for over 70 years. They would have celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary on June 18th. He was the proud father of three children, and "Grandboss" of seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was special to all who knew him, a faithful Christian, a true gentleman, who was kind and caring, a good sport with a healthy sense of humor. He cherished his family most of all and never met a stranger, having many friends and business acquaintances throughout his lifetime. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Fort Worth for over fifty years. He faithfully served his church and community as a Sunday School teacher for the College Career class, a member of the Chancel Choir, a faithful Deacon and Elder, an elected board member, and served as Vice-Chair and Chairman of the Board for several terms. He held memberships in the Sertoma Club, Colonial Country Club, and Petroleum Club.
In 1955, he began his long construction/sales career at Fort Worth Sand and Gravel. In 1961, he had the opportunity to take a break and travel with the family's amusement business. The Hames family has a long history of providing rides and attractions for the enjoyment of many patrons. From Forest Park Rides in Fort Worth to local, state, and world fairs, he enjoyed working and traveling with his wife and children, to over forty states and many provinces of Canada with custom rides until 1967. He loved sharing stories of his life on the road and shared them with anyone who would listen. He told people he was "the one and only concrete carney who had a lot to say."
With his children approaching school age, the family settled back in Fort Worth where he resumed his previous career working as a Sales Manager at Lone Star Industries and Tarrant Concrete, respectively, until his retirement at the age of 83 in 2019. Over the years he had many customers he also considered friends, some were second generation and he worked diligently to keep them happy and prosperous. Some of his commercial construction contributions were Dickies Arena, TCU Stadium, and Cook Children's Hospital. His success was always based on building and maintaining relationships, keeping your word, and solving problems quickly.
He is survived by his loving wife, Carol, son Gary Hames (Dorothy), and daughters Lori Heikkinen (Bruce), and Holly Crow (Travis). Grandchildren: Brian Bullard (Kellie), Dustin Bullard, Nick Hames (Alaina), Lauren Lansing (Allen), Braden Crow (Victoria), Katie Heikkinen, and Cara-Lee Crow.
